Our practice has taken pride in our
comprehensive evaluations. Our systems-based examiniations allow us to
record information about the soft tissues of the head, neck and mouth.
We also document periodontal conditions (gum disease), occlusal
relationships (bite), and temporomandibular joints (TMJ).

We look for decay or other problems
involving the teeth with clinicial and x-ray examination. We now have
a new diagnostic tool, called the DIAGNOdent, which scans teeth with a
harmless laser light, serching for hidden decay.

Locating decay before it destroys tooth
structure is a concern in dentistry. The widespread use of flouride
supplements in dental materials, toothpastes and drinking water have made
tooth surfaces harder and more resistant to decay. Diagnosing cavities
is more challenging because the disease process can start through
microscopic pits and fissures in the hard surface of the enamel. Decay
can easily spread into the softer dentine tooth structure underneath the
surface enamel. While the external surface of the tooth appears to be
healthy, X-rays and probing with an explorer are sometimes unreliable in
detecting sub-surface decay, particularly when the cavity is in its early
stages. Our new laser scanner allows us to locate the hidden decay,
and with treatment stop the spread of disease before it destroys the tooth
from within.

This unique instrument provides instant
feedback on the tooth's health. A pen-like probe glides over tooth
surfaces constantly checking the health of the tooth. An alarm beeps
and a numeric indicator reveals the severity of hidden decay. This new
technology is completely safe and pain free.

We are happy to be able to provide another
opportunity to serve you more effectively. With comprehensive dental
examinations, we can together plan your short term and long term treatment
options.
